ABOUT MEI was born and raised in Michigan, and I somehow knew right from the beginning that I wanted to teach.
After living in Michigan for most of my life, I decided to take on a new adventure by moving to Colorado. I was fortunate enough to obtain a position in an alternative high school soon after my arrival. I have been teaching high school for over 10 years now, and quickly realized I wanted to dive even deeper into instructional design. Besides being a mom, teaching is the most rewarding and amazing experience I have ever had. I strive every day to learn all that I can in my field and do all that I can for my students in my classroom. I want to be the best teacher I can be, for them. WHY DO I TEACH?Watching my students walk across the stage at their graduation ceremony is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Having the chance to support and encourage these students who have had extremely challenging lives improve their academic and work-readiness skills in order to enhance their opportunities out in the real world is a blessing. Not only do I get to teach these students everyday, but they teach me, they make me smile, they make me laugh, and they make my heart grow.

"Communicating, getting support, and staying in touch with the teacher (Mrs. Valvona) is pretty easy; she listens to what’s going on. She helps out a lot more than you think."

"Her classroom is a special place where students receive social and emotional support, as well as excellent access to high level expectations academically."
